Unusualness Makes Sense – Alternative Art Practices by Thai and Japanese Artists
I participate in a group exhibition in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Five Japanese artists go to Chiang Mai for a month for research, then make an exhibition with two Thai artists. This program is organized by Art Center Ongoing (Tokyo) and Chiang Mai Art Conversation (CAC) (Chiang Mai).

Koganecho Bazaar 2014
My new video installation “The sound of a horse approaching” is exhibited at Koganecho Bazaar 2014.
Fictive Communities Asia – Koganecho Bazaar 2014 marks the beginning of its new phase as an international art exhibition. With the theme “Fictive Communities,” the exhibition will feature works artists who were selected in consultation with Eight national and international organization, as well as artists who made their way through the open call. Artworks will be exhibited throughout the town. The exhibition aims to situate Yokohama as an important cultural hub in Asia, and provide a new think-tank network and platform among the Asian art communities.
International symposium, theater program and event of local food will be held during the exhibition period.

This event is the screening of three films by Maiko Jinushi (Tokyo). “Super Young Chili” (2013) is comedy about the art world. It had be shown at Yoyo Art Bar, Koganecho Bazaar 2013, Yokohama. “Here and There, Spring and Winter” (2012) is the feature film about people lived in Tokyo after the earthquake and Fukushima disaster. It had be shown at Art Center Ongoing, Fukuoka Independent Film Festival and Theater Image Forum. “Voice” (2011) is her first video work and it is about individual confession. It had be shown at Art Center Ongoing.
The presentation will be accompanied with Dodge (Tokyo) performance. Dodge is a sound and poetry reading performance group. The member is Maiko Jinushi, Hitomi Tada and Erika Kikukawa. In this time, Maiko and Hitomi will perform.
This event collaborates with Karina Roosvita (Yogya) to improve the mood of the presentation.
Maiko Jinushi (born in 1984) is an artist based in Tokyo. She obtained her master degree in Painting, at Tama Art University, Tokyo. She was interested in personal stories and used it in her drawings along with poetic yet long titles. These long titles were extended into short stories and she reads them as her performance. In 2010, she started to develop her storytelling practices into video works. Her works were shown at Art Center Ongoing (Tokyo), Art Award Tokyo (Tokyo) and Fukuoka Independent Film Festival (Fukuoka).

Video screening kali ini akan menampilkan 3 (tiga) film oleh Maiko Jinushi (Tokyo). Film pertama berjudul “Super Young Chili” (2013), sebuah film komedi pendek mengenai dunia seni yang telah diputar di Yoyo Art Bar, Koganecho Bazaar 2013, Yokohama dengan Wok The Rock sebagai salah seorang pemerannya. Video kedua berjudul “Here and There, Spring and Winter” (2012), merupakan film panjang mengenai perasaan-perasaan penduduk Tokyo setelah gempa besar dan tragedi Fukushima. Film ini telah diputar di Art Center Ongoing, Fukuoka Independent Film Festival dan Theater Image Forum. Sedangkan film ketiga berjudul “Voice” (2011), berisikan pengakuan-pengakuan personal yang merupakan karya pertama Maiko. Film ini juga telah diputar di Art Center Ongoing.
Selain pemutaran video, akan tampil juga grup musik Dodge (Tokyo), sebuah grup musik yang beranggotakan Maiko Jinushi, Hitomi Tada dan Erika Kikukawa, yang merupakan grup dengan ciri pembacaan puisi yang diiringi bebunyian. Penampilan Dodge kali ini diwakili oleh Maiko dan Hitomi.
Untuk memperkental mood selama presentasi, event ini berkolaborasi dengan Karina Roosvita (Jogja) yang akan mendokumentasikan ekspresi-ekspresi penonton selama pemutaran.
Maiko Jinushi (lahir 1984) adalah seorang seniman yang tinggal di Tokyo. Dia mendapatkan gelar Master di bidang Seni Lukis dari Tama Art University, Tokyo. Dia tertarik dengan cerita-cerita personal dan menggunakannya dalam gambar dengan judul panjang yang puitis. Judul-judul panjang ini lalu dikembangkan menjadi cerita pendek yang ia bacakan sebagai performance. Mulai tahun 2010, dia mulai mengembangkan praktik berceritanya ke dalam karya-karya video. Karya-karyanya dipamerkan di Art Center Ongoing (Tokyo), Art Award Tokyo (Tokyo) dan Fukuoka Independent Film Festival (Fukuoka).
